it doesn’t really start until first pitch of baseball’s opening night, you know. 🙂
the mets had a pretty good opening night, when they got a little revenge on the world champion cardinals and ace chris carpenter. i don’t know how the rest of the series will go, but i like the way it started. as a mets fan, i hope that what we saw from john maine and oliver perez in the NLCS will carry over to the 2007 season. after glavine, there are many question marks in the rest of the rotation. pedro’s not ready to go, and who knows what el duque will bring to the table this year? so the best thing to do for mets fans is take the season one game at a time, and hope that the team can get on a good roll (and that we don’t lose glavine to injury).
i like ESPN’s predictions of the division winners, but i think i’m going to let the season play out and possibly be surprised about how it ends (just as long as the mets win the NL east).
not that this has anything to with baseball, but i am pleased that kenny mayne has re-appeared on sportscenter. good job by espn. less stuart scott, more kenny mayne. that’s what i say anyway.
for those who actually have monday off, enjoy opening day. i’ll just max out the DVR and watch it later.
BTW, i’m rooting for the buckeyes to upset florida in the national championship game. i don’t expect it to happen, but i’m not making any predictions either way. 🙂

Oh heck yeah, I love Kenny Mayne. He’s the best they’ve ever had. If it were up to me it would be Kenny Mayne all the time.
I am a little disappointed in the Cards opening game, but it’s only April. Besides, the World Series Championship from last year will hold me over for quite some time. I see no repeat for the Cards, but I do think they will clinch the central again.
The Mets should be solid, if the pitching holds up that is. And I too am going for Ohio State in the championship tonight.
ESPN has lost so many fun SC anchors. They lost Rich Eisen to NFL Network. (Of course you couldn’t really blame the guy for wanting a bigger paycheck…) The rest of the guys I like now have their own niche shows like Karl Ravech and Rece Davis, and I just can’t watch most of the new guys on SC or on ESPNNews. It always seems like they are trying too hard to have the next great catchphrase, and there’s something forced about it. For some reason, I’ve never really liked Dan Patrick. I’m probably in the minority on that.
So you’re not convinced that the Cubs, under their new ownership and stud manager Lou Piniella, will finally break through and capture the NL Central, huh? 😛 I’m inclined to agree that the Cards win the NL Central.
The Mets have so many pitching questions. But we had some last year, and just ran out of pitchers at a bad time. I hope that Maine and Perez have a good regular season. That’s the only way we continue the success from 2006.
“It always seems like they are trying too hard to have the next great catchphrase, and theres something forced about it. For some reason, Ive never really liked Dan Patrick. Im probably in the minority on that.”– Oh no, I couldn’t agree with you more! I boycotted ESPN for a couple months last year because of how corny they were getting. And because they seem to love the flashy, thug players more than anything else. ESPN is just one big highlight reel. I’ve really become disappointed with them. Dan Patrick I tend to like, but have no real cares anymore.
One thing about the NL Central is that the Cubs are always the best team before the season starts and then, well, then the season starts. I look for the Cubs to finish third or fourth, and maybe win 75 games. The Cards should get hot this year and have a decent team. But probably lose the NL to the Mets. It’s that sports karma thing! 😉
The Cubs always crash and burn.
Go Mets, go Padres.
Both of you guys need to come visit me, so we can catch some games.
I like sports karma better than political karma…
I do wish the Cards and Padres successful seasons, just as long as the Mets are left standing at the end. 🙂
