could be a snow job

to those self-righteous preening political hacks at media matters: shut up. nobody cares what you think of tony snow, and this includes the president of the united states. i’ve seen what you consider shocking information about the future WH press secretary, and i’m still trying to find the incriminating stuff. tony snow has never hidden the fact that he worked for bush 41 or that he occasionally shows up on FNC. so what’s the big deal here?

tony snow is a man of integrity. he is an all-around nice guy, and he keeps the debate civil, even with those who have different views. how many other conservative talk show hosts can claim to have that kind of debate style? not too many, unfortunately. he is also more than qualified to be white house press secretary, and dubya would be a fool not to consider him for this position. it would also give conservatives actual representation in the vicinity of the white house, which they don’t seem to have right now.

i support the idea of tony snow becoming white house press secretary. he could handle the press, even david gregory. there’s no doubt in my mind that he would do an excellent job. i do think that the job he has now would be a hard job to give up. it’s possible that he is doing the administration more good with his radio show than he could possibly do as an official member of the team. i would miss hearing him on the radio every day, but when the white house comes calling, it would be silly not to consider the job offer. so whatever he decides, i wish him the best of luck either way.

there are a few other suggestions for white house press secretary here and here. good stuff. read and enjoy.

  1. It certainly seems that way. It’s sad what has happened to the Democratic party, because I don’t think that the average Democrat thinks the same way as their leadership. Ideas motivate people. Being positive and inspiring people is the way to get their attention. I don’t think this is part of the Democratic strategy, at least not right now.

  2. No objective truths about Tony Snow, the GOP, conservatism or America can affect the opinions or practices of the Left. They are only and entirely against. When you have no substantive positions of your own, owing to your internal fragmentation into disparate, endlessly squabbling interest groups, being against is all that remains to you.

  3. I’m not against Snow becoming press secretary. Politically speaking though I don’t think it would be a good move by the president.

Snow would do just fine as the spokesperson. In fact, he is way over-qualified for the job. I don’t know why Snow would want it. It has to be a miserable job. The only good thing that I can think that would come from it for Snow would be later on he could write a book about it.

The position is not for someone like Snow. It’s for someone who is just starting out. Typically one would go from press secretary to news editor of a major broadcaster or station. Or something similar to such. Snow is already way above that.

If Snow does become Bush’s spokesperson, I don’t think he will be the savior the Republicans need. No spokesperson will be able to handle what’s about to come.

So I do agree with ya on this. I just don’t think Snow should do it. Or maybe, I don’t know why he would want to do it.

  4. Chris,

The President’s numbers have nowhere to go but up. I don’t see how it could be a bad move to give the job to Tony Snow instead of to the other candidates, unless the concerns about his affliation with FNC really are a consideration with the average American. I’m not ruling out that possibility, although I think Media Matters is exaggerating the negatives about Tony Snow. But I’m not objective, and maybe other people don’t see this the same way. I can understand attacking Hannity and O’Reilly and Rush, because they kinda ask for it sometimes…but TONY SNOW???

I don’t think he should take the job either, but for more selfish reasons. I think he’s doing more good for the conservative cause with his radio show than he would as WH press secretary. I love the radio show, and would rather hear Tony every day on the radio instead of the limited time he would be on TV in the new job.

He would be crazy to take the job…but I would love to see him take on the press on an official basis. It would be fun.

  5. I don’t know, looks like his numbers dropped again. Fox News has Bush at 32%. I think he’ll go even lower than that.

I don’t think Snow’s affiliation with FNC is that big of a concern. Snow is good at what he does and he has never hid the fact that he’s Republican. It’s nothing new for an administration to bring a news guy in to do the news.

The problems that could arise would be if Snow does take the press secretary job and also wants to keep his radio show and his affiliations with FNC. That would be a huge conflict of interest and unethical to the highest degree.

I think Snow would do a good job. But politically I don’t think it’s going to make that much of a difference. This ship is going down… 🙂

  6. You are a little too happy about these low poll numbers. 😛 As far as Snow giving up his radio show and guest appearances on FNC, of course he would give that up. Whether he might regret making that choice to answer questions from the press, that’s a whole different proposition.
